New York Post Office

You think you're getting a cheap flight but then you have to pay for airport taxes, checked-in bags, food, drink, and soon... air.

I've learnt to pack light but unfortunately I have a pocket-knife amongst my possessions - which I obviously can't carry onboard. So whilst I was in New York I mailed my pocket-knife to myself, to be received at my friend's address in Austin, Texas - where I was heading. It cost me $5 in total versus the $25 I would have had to pay to check-in a bag.

I was pleasantly surprised to find the main post office in New York was so beautiful. The James Farley Post Office was built in 1912 and has a zip code of 10001.

[Above] The inscription on the building states: Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds. I guess it's implicit that my package won't be getting lost for a change... though it doens't exactly specify: nor theft nor recklessness nor laziness nor indifference.
