United Buddy Bears

On 5th March 2009 the United Buddy Bears came to Plaza San Martin, Buenos Aires. They continue on their world tour on 19th April.

[Below] The idea is that: "We have to get to know each other better ... it makes us understand one another better, trust each other more, and live together more peacefully."

More than 140 countries acknowledged by the United Nations are represented, promoting tolerance, international understanding and the great concept of different nations and cultures living in peace and harmony. Each bear has been designed by artist native to that country, and they all stand hand in hand in a peaceful circle.

[Below] The overall message is beautiful. And in addition to all the "country" bears, there are four Golden Rule Bears. Below is the Respect for all Life Bear. "Respect for life cannot be divided - in the same way as life cannot be divided and separation always leads to barbaric behaviour."

The other Golden Rule Bears carry messages saying:
Speak and act truthfully!
Respect and love one another!
Have respect for life!
Deal honestly and fairly!

[Below] It looks like the people of Moldova are a little frustrated that nobody knows where they are.

[Below] Hmm... Beer and busty women on the back of your bicycle? Damn it, I'm going to Moldova!!!

[Below] This brought a smile to my face. From left to right: Australia, my home country; Armenia, my ancestry; Argentina, my location. All three bears which I can relate to in this point in time are standing hand-in-hand... which means I can save some space on my camera's memory card, haha. ;)

[Below] Many of the bears also have interesting things on their backs - sometimes more interesting. Unfortunately, most people systematically walk past all the bears taking photos with the ones which have the prettiest colors or their favorite countries.

[Below] There are many robotic photographers. You have been warned.

The bears have been on a world tour since 2002. They represent something beautiful and are worth a visit to be inspired by their message of peace and love.
