Settle your stomach with 7Up

Today I learned of some interesting information.

I was among a group of travellers and I was telling them of my experience of ill-health in Bolivia. Jasmine, one of the travellers told me that she just had a rough week too. "I was sick from Monday to Thursday," she said. "I couldn't keep anything down and I was constantly vomiting. So eventually I had to go to hospital."

"And what did they do," I asked, expecting to hear a resolution involving heavy medication.

"The doctor told me to remain horizontal and to keep drinking 7Up which has been shaken up. Not Sprite... 7Up. Only 7Up. Apparently it's called 7Up because it has a pH which is slightly above neutral, i.e. 7. Hence, 7 Up. You shake it up so it loses its fizz and you lie horizontal and it kills all the bugs in your stomach. I did this and I got better very quickly."

I have since done a little research and apparently the theory of 7Up being slightly above a neutral pH is a myth - it actually has a pH of 3.67 which makes it rather acidic. But hey, if you find yourself in gastro-intestinal distress and at risk of dehydration and malnutrition I guess 7Up is a better option than intoxicating your body with horrible, evil prescription drugs.

Or you can do what I did: allow your body heal itself. The power that made the body, heals the body. Yay! :D

[Above] "Seven-Up... You Like it... it likes you!" If you look closely you can almost see their teeth rotting. "Buy a case today!"
