The END of the WORLD!!!

The end of the world is near!
Geographically, not chronologically. Actually, it's just outside my bedroom window.

As I rest my head on my pillow to sleep last night, my eyes drifted upwards to look through the window hovering over my head. And as the fierce wind shook the wooden frame of the house and the ceiling tiles above, I suddenly gazed upon a gathering of tranquil stars emerging from a rapid current of clouds upon the sea of blackness - each standing out like a shiny, silver button on a blanket of darkness.

These are the priceless moments of travel I adore.

Today I climbed a mountain to find a glacier, and unknowingly found myself walking on it.

Whereas Ushuaia is at the bottom end of the world, the prices here are at the high end. Even now, in the low season - when many of the shops close early or simply stay closed - there are an abundance of tourists on the streets and cruise ships of high-end travellers disembarking to shop.

It's not my scene.

It's a beautiful place - a bay surrounded by mountains and glaciers, clouds rushing through for a rain delivery or two, national parks, lagoons and wildlife - but I am ready to move on.

Tomorrow I will head towards El Calafate. I don't know if I will make it all the way there in one day - after all, it is arond 1,000 km away - but it is my goal. I have a kilo of fruit, over half a kilo of bread, spreadable cheese, cookies, and Vegemite for the journey.

See you there. :)
